In a dramatic display of discontent, workers of Rufus Giwa Polytechnic (RUGIPO) in Owo, Ondo State, took to the streets  to protest the institution’s alleged neglect of their welfare.

The protesters, who were carrying placards, marched to their school gate, demanding immediate attention to their grievances.

Their placards bore inscriptions such as “We want improved welfare,” “Pay our arrears now,” and “Implement minimum wage” among others.

According to the protesters, the Government  has failed to implement the new minimum wage, leaving many workers struggling to make ends meet. They also alleged that their salaries Arrears have been delayed for six months, causing immense hardship for many employees.

“We are not just fighting for ourselves, we are fighting for our families,” said one of the protesters, who wished to remain anonymous. “We cannot continue to work under these conditions. The management must listen to our demands and act swiftly.”

The protesters also expressed frustration over the lack of investment in staff development and the poor state of infrastructure within the institution.

“We want better facilities, better equipment, and better opportunities for growth,” another protester said. “We deserve to be treated with dignity and respect.”

The protest, which lasted for several hours, caused a stir in the town, with many residents expressing sympathy for the workers’ plight.

The development has raised concerns about the Welfare of the workers, impact on academic activities and the overall well-being of students and staff at the institution.
