PDP Crisis Deepens: Gov. Makinde Explains Rift With Wike
Oyo State Governor, Seyi Makinde, has finally opened up on his ongoing clash with FCT Minister Nyesom Wike, saying the disagreement is far bigger than personal issues.
Speaking on the crisis rocking the PDP and the recent clashes at the party’s national secretariat in Abuja, Makinde said the fight is about protecting Nigeria’s democracy, not about individuals.
According to him, Wike’s recent actions suggest an attempt to push Nigeria towards a one-party state, a move Makinde insists goes against the vision of Nigeria’s founding fathers.
“We don’t believe in a one-party Nigeria. Our founding fathers gave us a multiparty democracy, and we must sustain it so Nigerians always have options,” Makinde said.
The governor assured PDP members nationwide that the struggle is for the future of Nigeria’s democratic system.
“It may get worse before it gets better, but if we must stay here for weeks to defend democracy, we will.”
Makinde also dismissed personal talks about his relationship with Wike, saying he prefers to focus on issues, not individuals.
