Political parties do not survive on emotion, factional interest, or power play. They survive on rules. And rules only have meaning when they are respected by those who wield authority at every level. The recent attempt by some stakeholders within the Ogun State chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC) to suspend Senator Otunba Gbenga Daniel has once again tested the strength, maturity, and internal discipline of our party.

Fortunately, the APC National Secretariat has now intervened and in doing so, it has provided clarity on what the Constitution of the party actually demands.

On 17th November 2025, the National Secretary of the APC, Sen. Surajudeen Ajibola Basiru, PhD, issued an official communication addressed to the Ogun State Chairman directing an immediate halt to public actions and correspondence relating to the purported suspension of Senator Gbenga Daniel. The letter affirmed in clear and unambiguous language that Senator Daniel remains a bona fide member of the APC until due process is completed.

The Constitution Is Clear No Member Can Be Suspended Arbitrarily

According to Article 21 of the APC Constitution, disciplinary measures including suspension must follow an institutional process grounded in:
• Investigation
• Fair hearing
• Committee review
• National Working Committee (NWC) deliberation and approval

The Constitution recognizes multiple layers of the party structure, but it does not permit ward, local government, or state organs to unilaterally suspend a high-ranking party figure especially an elected Senator without the involvement and ratification of the National Working Committee.

The national letter referenced Articles 21.3(d & e) of the Constitution, pointing out that:

The NWC is yet to deliberate on this matter as required by law. Therefore, no suspension exists in the eyes of the party.

Why This Matters: The Rule of Law Over Political Excitement

What has played out in Ogun State is not just about Senator Gbenga Daniel. It is about the very character of the APC.

If political actors can wake up today and suspend a ward chairman, tomorrow a councilor, and next week a sitting Senator without due process then the party ceases to be a democratic institution and becomes a battleground of intimidation and internal sabotage.

The National Secretariat’s action was therefore not merely administrative; it was a defense of institutional sanity Unity Is Strength Ogun APC Must Not Become a House Divided

The APC remains the ruling party in Ogun State, and the people expect governance, stability, and internal cohesion not crisis headlines, factional fights, and hostile political gossip. No political party grows when its leaders are fighting its own elected representatives.

Senator Gbenga Daniel represents Ogun East at the National Assembly. His political experience, network, and influence are assets not burdens to the party that proudly flew his ticket. Whatever grievances exist should be handled through dialogue, reconciliation, and constitutional mechanisms not through hurried media announcements or political ambush.

The Way Forward

With the National Working Committee now in control of the matter, the following path is expected:

1. A formal investigation panel will be constituted.
2. All parties will be invited to present evidence and testimony.
3. Senator Daniel must be granted fair hearing as guaranteed by Article 21.4.
4. A final decision will be issued only after national deliberation.

This ensures justice is not only done but seen to be done.

Discipline Must Be Anchored in Law, Not Emotion

The message from the National Secretariat is unmistakable:

Procedural fairness overrides political emotion.
Party unity overrides factional warfare.
The Constitution overrides local improvisation.

Senator Gbenga Daniel remains, as at today, a full and valid member of the APC. Any claims contrary to this are politically speculative, constitutionally weak, and procedurally invalid.

It is time for everyone in Ogun APC leaders, elders, and members to close ranks and allow due process to take its course. Because a party that cannot manage its internal affairs cannot credibly ask the public to trust it with the affairs of the state.

Signed:
Otunba (Dr.) Abdulfalil Abayomi Odunowo, D.Sc (h.c)
