In the capital, a full day of demonstrations kicked off with activists setting up tents on the National Mall, calling for Trump’s impeachment and spotlighting what they described as democratic backsliding under his leadership.

Protesters across the United States marked May Day on Thursday with mass demonstrations, opposing President Donald Trump, denouncing his administration’s policies and perceived efforts to expand executive authority.

“Branded as “50501” — representing 50 demonstrations across all states and one collective cause — the movement mobilised events in over 1000 locations across the country.

Large crowds gathered in major urban centers such as New York, Chicago, and Seattle, while smaller towns also staged their own protests.”

In the capital, a full day of demonstrations kicked off with activists setting up tents on the National Mall, calling for Trump’s impeachment and spotlighting what they described as democratic backsliding under his leadership.

Organisers and participants framed the protests as a long-overdue pushback against what they view as a government increasingly controlled by the ultra-wealthy.

One of the day’s most high-profile events took place in Philadelphia, where the AFL-CIO — the country’s largest labor federation — hosted a rally featuring Senator Bernie Sanders.

The event, titled “For the Workers, Not the Billionaires,” condemned the influence of corporate elites within the administration — including Tesla and SpaceX CEO, Elon Musk, who oversees the White House’s cost-cutting initiative known as the “Department of Government Efficiency.”

Although May Day — or International Workers’ Day — is not a federal holiday in the United States, it remains a potent symbol for labor movements around the world.

This year, anti-Trump messages reverberated at solidarity protests from France to the Philippines, reinforcing the global dimensions of the unrest.

Despite the scale of the demonstrations, many protesters voiced concern over what they see as an insufficient response from Democratic leaders and a broader lack of sustained political resistance.

Organisers said Thursday’s actions were intended not only to challenge Trump but to reignite grassroots mobilisation nationwide
