My heart truly aches over the terrible banditry attacks in Eruku, Kwara State. It is heartbreaking to watch innocent people live with fear hanging over their heads, and even worse to see families lose loved ones in such a cruel and senseless way. No community deserves this kind of pain. No mother should cry over a child lost to violence. No family should be left shattered because the system failed to protect them. What happened in Eruku should trouble every one of us.

We cannot pretend all is well. Nigeria is struggling with insecurity that keeps getting bolder by the day, and it’s clear that the current approach is not giving our people the safety they deserve. I strongly appeal to Mr President to urgently reshuffle the cabinet, especially in the area of security. We need leaders who can bring fresh energy, new strategies, and genuine commitment to securing this country. Lives are on the line. People are suffering. We cannot afford to carry on with business as usual.

While I grieve with the people of Eruku, I can’t help but think about the safety of my own people in Owo/Ose Federal Constituency. We have had our moments of fear too, and it stays with me. Every time I speak up, every time I push for action, it is because I want to make sure our communities never have to experience this level of pain. Your safety is not just a priority for me. It is personal. It is the core of why I serve.

To the families in Eruku, please know that my thoughts and prayers are with you. To every Nigerian living with anxiety because of insecurity, you are not alone. And to my people in Owo/Ose, I will keep fighting—loudly, consistently, and without fear—until you can live freely and safely in your own land.

Nigeria must protect her children. We have reached a point where decisive action is not just necessary, it is overdue.

Dr. Abiola Oshodi
