Atiku lacks moral authority to question Jonathan’s experience, says group
The Goodluck Jonathan Legacy Project (GJLP) has faulted remarks by former Vice-President Atiku Abubakar describing ex-President Goodluck Jonathan as “inexperienced.”
During an interview on Arise TV on Wednesday, Abubakar described Jonathan as a decent leader but said his lack of experience contributed to his failure to manage the country’s affairs effectively.
But in a statement issued on Thursday, Juan Amechee, GJLP’s national coordinator, said Abubakar lacks the moral authority to question Jonathan’s experience.
“Unfortunately, this statement is coming from a career presidential candidate who lacks the moral authority to speak about experience, where globally respected leaders are discussing leadership,” the statement reads.
“If experience is defined by being a serial presidential candidate, a role he [Abubakar] seemingly hopes to reprise in 2027, then one must ask why such experience has failed to translate into national leadership for him.
Amechee also defended the Jonathan administration, noting that Nigeria became Africa’s largest economy during his tenure, attracted significant foreign direct investment, and kept inflation at a single digit.
Amechee added that in 2013, Jonathan was honoured by the Food and Agriculture Organisation (FAO) for Nigeria’s progress in hunger eradication
