Odide Refutes Allegations of Secretariat Invasion, Signals Imminent Legal Action

Otunba Adekunle Odide has issued a strongly worded rebuttal to allegations linking him with the reported invasion of the Owo Local Government Secretariat, categorically disavowing any involvement and warning of impending legal action against purveyors of what he described as defamatory falsehoods.

In a statement formally issued and made available to members of the press, Odide denounced the claims as a “pernicious stream of allegations” deliberately concocted to mislead the public and erode his hard-earned reputation. He asserted with emphatic clarity that the accusations are “patently false” and emblematic of a calculated campaign of calumny and malicious misrepresentation.

The businessman of repute maintained that he holds no public office and bears no partisan obligations within any political structure, rendering attempts to associate him with the incident both unfounded and recklessly misleading. He stated unequivocally that he neither possesses knowledge of nor participated, directly or indirectly, in the affairs culminating in the mayhem at the council secretariat.

Describing the development as intolerable, Odide condemned what he characterised as an orchestrated effort by unscrupulous elements to drag his name into matters entirely alien to him. He placed those responsible on what he termed the “strictest notice,” demanding an immediate cessation of the dissemination of defamatory narratives.

The statement highlighted that the circulation of unverified and injurious claims is not merely unethical but constitutes actionable wrongdoing within the ambit of extant laws. To that end, Odide declared his readiness to invoke all available legal remedies against individuals or groups implicated in the propagation of such falsehoods, including what he referred to as “paid online mercenaries and their sponsors.”

He further warned that, should the alleged campaign persist, the machinery of the law would be activated without hesitation to ensure accountability and redress.

While urging the public to disregard the allegations and resist amplifying unsubstantiated claims, Odide emphasised that the responsibility for investigating the incident rests exclusively with the appropriate security agencies, which he said must conduct impartial inquiries and communicate findings through lawful channels.

Reaffirming his commitment to peace, the rule of law and principled leadership, he stated that his primary concern remains the preservation of stability, cohesion and sustainable development within Owo Kingdom.

Odide concluded by admonishing political actors to conduct their engagements with decorum, integrity and a heightened sense of responsibility, cautioning against the dangerous consequences of misinformation capable of exacerbating tensions and undermining public confidence.
