US President Donald Trump has spoken out following the shooting incident that disrupted the White House Correspondents’ Dinner, describing the nature of his role in public service as “one of the most dangerous professions.”
In a reflective statement after the incident, Trump said he was not fully aware of the risks when he first took on the position, adding that the reality of the job carries serious dangers.
“Nobody told me this was such a dangerous profession,” he said. “If Marco would have told me, maybe I wouldn’t have run. Maybe I would have said I’ll take a pass.”
Despite acknowledging the risks, Trump noted that he does not personally view the job through fear, stressing that it is part of the responsibility he has accepted.
“It is a dangerous profession, but I don’t view it that way. I’m here to do a job, and it’s part of the job,” he said.
He went further to say he could not think of any other profession that carries greater risk, while reaffirming his pride in his service and achievements.
“I can’t imagine that there’s any profession that’s more dangerous, but I love the country and I’m very proud. I’m very proud of the job we’ve done. You see what’s happened. We have a great country,” he added.
