Owo Youth General Assembly Convenes Congress, Addresses Socio-Economic Challenges

Owo Youth General Assembly, led by Comrade Olaposi Oyegoke, Yesterday held a high-level stakeholders’ congress at Oke-Mapo Hall on Friday, March 21, 2025.

The Assembly aimed to address pressing socio-political issues within the Owo Kingdom, including security concerns, economic challenges, and other critical issues affecting the youth constituency in Owo Local Government.

During the Congress, the Assembly observed the e need for recognition and support for the Owo Youth General Assembly as the representative body of the youth demographic. Also, discussed on the alarming rise in security infractions and illicit drug consumption among secondary school students, and the importance of fostering alliances with the executive council and political officeholders to enhance youth development.

In response to these observations, members present at congress adopted several resolutions, which includes; establishing the Owo Youth General Assembly as the sole authoritative voice for the youth constituency. Secondly, Creating a specialized security and surveillance volunteer force to combat juvenile delinquency, restructuring and expanding the executive cabinet to ensure broader community representation, and Launching a coordinated anti-cultism, anti-hooliganism, anti-kidnapping, and anti-drug abuse advocacy campaign.

The leadership of Owo Youth General Assembly, further reaffirmed its commitment to fostering peaceful coexistence among all communities within Owo Local Government. The Assembly urged all indigenes, community leaders, and political stakeholders to prioritize the collective interests of Owo Kingdom above parochial considerations.

COMMUNIQUÉ ISSUED AT THE CONCLUSION OF OWO YOUTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY CONGRESS HELD AT OKE-MAPO HALL ON FRIDAY, 21ST MARCH 2025

1.0 Preamble

 

Pursuant to its strategic agenda for the year 2025, and in response to pressing socio-political exigencies within the Owo Kingdom, the Owo Youth General Assembly under the leadership of Comrade Olaposi Oyegoke convened a high-level stakeholders’ congress. The assembly served as a platform for robust deliberations on prevailing socio-economic challenges, security concerns and other critical issues affecting the youth constituency in Owo Local Government.

 

2.0 Attendance

 

The congress witnessed an impressive assemblage of eminent youth leaders, representatives of distinguished community-based youth organizations and other notable stakeholders. Also in attendance were principal officers of the legislative arm of government and delegates from the Nigerian Union of Local Government Employees (NULGE), Owo Local Government chapter.

 

3.0 Observations

 

Upon exhaustive deliberations, the following pertinent observations were made:

 

i. The imperative need for all youth organizations, religious bodies, traditional institutions and political actors to accord due recognition and unflinching support to Owo Youth General Assembly as the overarching and legitimate representative body of the youth demographic within the local government.

 

ii. The alarming surge in security infractions and the pernicious proliferation of illicit drug consumption among secondary school students in Owo Kingdom, posing a severe threat to the moral fabric of the society.

 

iii. The necessity for the Assembly to foster strategic developmental alliances with the executive council of Owo Local Government as well as with distinguished political officeholders in order to enhance the socio-political and economic advancement of the youth populace.

 

iv. The imperative need to restructure and expand the executive leadership framework of Owo Youth General Assembly to accommodate broader community representation and mitigate the administrative burden presently borne by the President and the Secretary.

 

4.0 Resolutions

 

After comprehensive deliberations on the foregoing observations, the congress unanimously adopted the following resolutions:

 

a.) That Owo Youth General Assembly shall, henceforth be the sole and authoritative voice authorized to issue official statements or press releases on behalf of the youth constituency in Owo Local Government.

 

b.) That a specialized security and surveillance volunteer force be instituted under the aegis of the Assembly with the express mandate to collaborate with conventional security agencies in combating juvenile delinquency, particularly among secondary school students.

 

c.) That the executive cabinet of the Assembly be restructured and expanded to ensure equitable representation of all constituent communities within the local government while simultaneously alleviating the administrative pressures on the President and the Secretary.

 

d.) That a coordinated anti-cultism, anti-hooliganism, anti-kidnapping and anti-drug abuse advocacy campaign be staged, involving a mass mobilization exercise to create awareness and deter youth engagement in illicit activities.

 

e.) That the Assembly shall proactively engage with proprietors and principals of secondary schools to decisively address the escalating moral decadence and deteriorating ethical standards among students.

 

f.) That the Assembly shall without deviation adhere strictly to its officially approved 2025 programme of activities as endorsed by the congress.

 

 

5.0 Conclusion

 

The leadership of Owo Youth General Assembly reaffirmed its resolute commitment to fostering peaceful coexistence among all communities within Owo Local Government. In furtherance of this objective, the Assembly implored all indigenes, particularly community leaders and political stakeholders to prioritise the collective interests of Owo Kingdom above parochial considerations.
