AN IMPOSED BAD LEADERSHIP IN ONDO STATE HOUSE OF ASSEMBLY: A TRAGIC DERAILMENT OF PURPOSE AND A CALL FOR DIVINE CONSCIENCE

In every democratic setting, the legislative arm of government stands as the conscience of governance — a sacred institution designed to safeguard justice, uphold accountability, and protect the will of the people.

Yet, in the unfolding reality of Ondo State, the once noble and respected House of Assembly has sadly derailed from its divine and constitutional purpose. What ought to be a sanctuary of truth and justice has degenerated into a theatre of pride, oppression, deceit, and moral decay. The current leadership has traded the path of wisdom for the vanity of arrogance, substituting divine guidance with political recklessness.

The Scripture reminds us in Proverbs 29:2 (KJV): “When the righteous are in authority, the people rejoice: but when the wicked beareth rule, the people mourn.” Sadly, the people of Ondo State are in mourning — not for lack of resources or potential, but for the absence of godly and selfless leadership within the legislative chamber,ODHA.

The Ondo State House of Assembly, which should serve as a beacon of hope, has become a shadow of its purpose. Rather than being the people’s watchdog, it has become a willing tool in the hands of a few whose lust for power outweighs their sense of duty. Decisions are now driven by greed, bribes have replaced conscience, and oppression has silenced the spirit of justice.

It is disheartening to witness leaders who should uphold righteousness descend into deceit and self-glorification. The Leadership is no longer viewed as a call to serve, but as an opportunity to exploit and suppress.

But power without morality is dangerous; authority without divine direction is destructive. The Word of God warns in Proverbs 16:18: “Pride goeth before destruction, and a haughty spirit before a fall.” Those who wield authority without humility should remember that the same ladder that lifts a man can one day bow to his downfall.

History is replete with examples of leaders who abused power and paid dearly for it. The tragic ends of S.L. Akintola, Chief Fani-Kayode (Snr.), Adolf Hitler of Germany, General Sani Abacha, and even Pharaoh of Egypt stand as immortal reminders that leadership built on arrogance, deceit, and oppression is doomed to collapse.

Just as Pharaoh hardened his heart against the voice of reason and divine warning, so do some leaders today resist the truth, forgetting that “There is a way that seemeth right unto a man, but the end thereof are the ways of death.” — Proverbs 14:12.

The current leadership of the Ondo State House of Assembly must reflect on these five inevitable truths that no corrupt regime has ever escaped:

Divine Retribution – For every act of oppression, there is a divine consequence.
Downfall of Leadership – No seat of power is eternal; history always repeats its lessons.
Eternal Judgment – Earthly immunity cannot exempt anyone from God’s justice.
Suffering of the People – When leaders fail, it is the masses who bleed.
Punishment for Arrogance – Pride, when full-blown, leads to inevitable destruction.
In the words of Mahatma Gandhi, “The best way to find yourself is to lose yourself in the service of others.” Sadly, many leaders today have lost the spirit of service and found themselves consumed by greed.

Let every leader in Ondo State House of Assembly remember this: “Be not deceived; God is not mocked: for whatsoever a man soweth, that shall he also reap.” — Galatians 6:7.

Those who govern with cruelty and injustice may enjoy temporary applause, but they will one day face eternal accountability. The House of Assembly must rise again as the true House of the People, not a den of compromise and corruption.

For in the end, leadership without integrity is failure, and power without God is ruin.

May those in power in Ondo State House of Assembly awaken to the sacred truth that good governance is not a privilege to exploit, but a divine trust to uphold—for God alone.
