Gunmen Attacked A Monarch And His Family In Benue; 2 Days Later, The Gov Hasn’t Heard – Odinkalu

Human rights advocate and former Chairman of the National Human Rights Commission, Chidi Odinkalu, has voiced concern over the response of Benue State Governor, Hyacinth Alia, following the recent attacks in the state. In a post shared on his verified X account, Odinkalu questioned why the governor had remained silent two days after the tragic incident.

The attack, which reportedly claimed several lives, sparked widespread reactions across social media after details emerged online. Reports indicated that the palace of the traditional ruler of the Olegabulu community in Agatu Local Government Area was invaded by armed assailants, who carried out a violent assault on the ruler and members of his household.

Reacting to the development, Odinkalu expressed disappointment over the governor’s lack of public response. He argued that Governor Alia, considering his leadership position and background, should have publicly sympathized with the victims’ families and taken visible steps to reassure residents while working to prevent similar incidents in the future.

The tragic event has continued to generate anxiety and concern among residents of the state. Odinkalu’s remarks have further intensified calls for stronger leadership action and improved security measures to protect communities from recurring violence
