Olayomi Koiki, media aide to Yoruba Nation agitator Sunday Adeyemo, popularly known as Sunday Igboho, has asserted that Yoruba youths cannot unlock their full potential within Nigeria, despite decades of prayers and hope.

In audio recordings obtained by newsmen, Koiki highlighted the need for Yoruba self-determination, stating that only through the creation of a sovereign Yoruba Nation can young people truly thrive and achieve success.

“Yoruba Nation Youth Rally is an inalienable right. Our true strength lies in unity and our ability to determine our destiny. Let us embrace self-determination to unlock our full potential. If we get our country, we will unlock our full potential within the space of 12 months,” he said.

Koiki argued that various professions, from hairdressing to engineering, medicine, and driving, would thrive under an independent Yoruba nation but remain constrained within Nigeria.

He criticised those who believe they can achieve success in the current system, referring to them as “fools” for thinking Nigeria provides an enabling environment for Yoruba youths.

“For 64 years, we have been praying, yet our potential remains locked. Have you ever asked yourself why? What is preventing me from succeeding in Nigeria? Why is there so much poverty, disease, and hardship in this country?” he queried.

He further alleged that the Nigerian government deliberately suppresses the economic potential of Yorubaland, allowing “strangers and non-indigenes” to benefit from the region’s resources while its rightful inhabitants suffer.

He added: “Have you ever asked yourself why, and what caused it? What is preventing me from succeeding in Nigeria? What is the cause of poverty, disease, and hardships for dwellers in Nigeria?

“It is because Yorubaland has potential, that the Nigerian government does not want us to benefit from it. It is strangers, non-indigenes and those who want to forcefully take our lands are the ones enjoying the benefits of our lands. This is why they kept pushing various diseases and others into Yoruba land.”
