Lagos, Nigeria – March 21, 2025

The Majority Leader of the Ondo State House of Assembly, Hon. Oluwole Emmanuel Ogunmolasuyi, has reaffirmed his commitment to strengthening legislative processes and governance at the Conference on Harmonized Standing Orders for State Houses of Assembly in Nigeria and the 2025 Constitution Review.

Held at the Lagos Continental Hotel from March 20 to 21, 2025, the event brought together key stakeholders to discuss reforms to enhance legislative efficiency and accountability across Nigeria.

As the Chairman of the Southwest Majority Leaders Forum, Hon. Ogunmolasuyi played a pivotal role in the deliberations, representing the Ondo State House of Assembly and the broader Southwest legislative community. The conference, organized with the support of the Konrad Adenauer Stiftung, aimed to harmonize the Standing Orders of State Houses of Assembly to promote uniformity, efficiency, and transparency in legislative procedures.

Discussions centered around:

• Standardizing legislative practices to ensure consistency in lawmaking.
• Enhancing legislative independence while fostering synergy with the executive and judiciary.
• Reviewing the 2025 constitutional amendments to strengthen democratic governance at the state level.

Hon. Ogunmolasuyi emphasized the need for clear, enforceable legislative procedures to empower state assemblies to function more effectively, particularly in their oversight roles. He stressed that a well-structured legislature is fundamental to good governance, policy continuity, and sustainable development.

During his address, Hon. Ogunmolasuyi reiterated the importance of legislative capacity-building, encouraging state assemblies to utilize knowledge-sharing platforms to drive governance improvements. He commended the conference organizers for fostering a platform for critical reflection on constitutional reforms and advocating for progressive changes that align with the aspirations of the Nigerian people.

As the Chairman of the Southwest Majority Leaders Forum, he assured his colleagues of continued collaboration in advancing regional legislative interests within Nigeria’s national framework. Hon. Ogunmolasuyi’s participation in this high-level conference underscores his dedication to legislative excellence and governance reforms. His contributions are expected to shape ongoing efforts to refine Nigeria’s legislative structures, ensuring that state assemblies operate with greater coherence, accountability, and impact.
