The Anambra State Police Command has announced the arrest of two suspects in connection with the gruesome murder of an 80-year-old woman, Mrs. Theresa Igbojonu, in the Ihiala Local Government Area.
According to a statement by the Police Public Relations Officer, SP Tochukwu Ikenga, officers from the Ihiala Divisional Police Station apprehended the suspects, identified as Chidiebere Igboanugo and Emmanuel Ibeabuchi — both male and natives of Umunwaji Ogboro, Ihiala.
Mrs. Igbojonu was reportedly tied by her legs and mouth before being murdered in her home. A black CG motorcycle belonging to the deceased, which was allegedly stolen after the crime, has since been recovered by security operatives.
The incident came to light following a report received by the Ihiala Division on April 2, 2025, at about 11:30pm.
During a routine patrol on April 5, operatives arrested Chidiebere Igboanugo at Ezego Junction in Ihiala after the deceased’s son recognized the stolen motorcycle in his possession.
Following his arrest, Chidiebere confessed and named Emmanuel Ibeabuchi as an accomplice. Acting on the information, police arrested Ibeabuchi on April 7.
Further investigation revealed that two other individuals identified as “Alla” and “Emeka” are part of the gang and are currently at large.
“The Commissioner of Police has ordered the immediate transfer of the case to the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID), Awka, for a more thorough investigation.
“He also directed security operatives to intensify efforts to apprehend the remaining suspects.
“The arrested suspects will be charged to court upon the conclusion of investigations,” he added.
