The Ondo State Youth Network (OSYN) has condemned the Attorney General and Commissioner for Justice, Dr. Kayode Ajulo, over the detention of three Akoko youths, including former Rufus Giwa Polytechnic SUG President, James Akeju.
The trio—Adediran Gabriel, Yaya Bisola, and Akeju—were remanded by an Akure Magistrate’s Court on Tuesday, following what OSYN described as politically motivated actions by Ajulo.
In a statement signed by its PRO, Christopher Olusa, the group accused Ajulo of abusing power, alleging that the youths were harassed and arrested after a confrontation with the AG on March 28. Despite earlier efforts by Akoko elders to resolve the matter, the youths were later served court summonses based on “baseless” charges.
OSYN noted that while all charges were struck out due to lack of jurisdiction, the magistrate still ordered their remand until April 16, calling the move a “dangerous descent into tyranny.”
The group urged Governor Lucky Aiyedatiwa to intervene, warning that the situation could worsen tensions in a state already battling insecurity.
Meanwhile, Yomi Saint, Technical Adviser to the AG, defended Ajulo, describing the youths’ conduct as immature and demanding a public apology.
