A civil rights activist, Prince Ukuanovwe Godstime, has raised concerns over the destruction and disappearance of his vehicle during a protest in Abraka, Delta State.
According to Godstime, his car was damaged by a soldier and taken away to an undisclosed location without any explanation or accountability.
“Did my car, a non-living object, also have an altercation with the military?” Godstime questioned, referencing the narrative by the Ethiope East Local Government Chairman, Chief Augustine Ogedegbe, that protesters had an altercation with the military.
The activist who stated this in a statement on the destruction and disappearance of his vehicle, a Toyota Sienna, expressed disappointment that the Delta State Government, led by Hon. Sheriff Oborevwori, had not responded to the legitimate concerns behind the protest, which centred on ending insecurity and rampant kidnappings in Abraka.
“We did a peaceful protest in Abraka. The governor sent the military to attack us instead of going against the kidnappers we were protesting about,” Godstime said.
Godstime demanded answers, asking, “What did my car do to warrant such an attack? Who ordered the shooting of peaceful protesters in Abraka?”
He emphasised that the people deserve transparency, justice, and safety, not silence, violence, and intimidation.
“We will not rule out further protests to demand justice for the peaceful protesters who were attacked,” Godstime warned, hoping for the recovery of his car in good condition with all valuables intact.
