What was supposed to be a joyful celebration quickly descended into chaos when officers from the Olosan Police Station allegedly disrupted the annual carnival in Olopade, Ojuwoye, Mushin, on Saturday.

According to reports, the officers fired tear gas into the crowd without any prior warning or apparent provocation.

Eyewitnesses recounted the sudden arrival of police at the street entrance, followed by the unexpected discharge of tear gas, sparking panic among attendees.

“It was like a scene from a horror movie, it was so terrible,” an eyewitness told Newsmen.

The source said, “Without any warning or provocation, officers from Olosan Police Station, Mushin, suddenly appeared at the entrance of our street in Olopade, Ojuwoye, where we were holding our annual carnival, and fired tear gas.”

The incident sparked widespread panic, triggering a stampede that left several people injured. Some attendees reportedly suffered dislocations, lost personal belongings, and are still grappling with emotional distress following the chaos.

Community members are now demanding accountability from the Nigeria Police Force and the Odi-Olowo/Ojuwoye Local Council Development Area (LCDA), calling for a thorough investigation into what they describe as an “unprovoked and brutal” attack by the Olosan Police officers.Nigerian cultural tours

“Nigeria Police Force and Odi-Olowo/Ojuwoye LCDA must take urgent action to address the chaos caused by this harmful act,” a resident of the area said.

“I haven’t felt like my usual self since the incident. I can’t even sleep properly. The fear and confusion have been overwhelming.”

The incident has reignited concerns over the use of force by security agencies during peaceful gatherings in Lagos.

As of now, no official statement has been issued by Olosan Police Station or the LCDA regarding the incident.

Residents insist that this act of aggression must be thoroughly addressed and are calling on authorities to take swift action to prevent similar incidents in the future.

When contacted, Lagos Police Command Public Relations Officer Ben Hundeyin did not answer calls, and text messages requesting comments on the situation had not been returned at the time of filing this report.
