The circulation of alarmist messages alleging a “Tactical Cold War” between President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and Vice President Kashim Shettima is a dangerous cocktail of speculation, mischief, and misinformation. Such narratives, left unchecked, only serve to sow disunity within the All Progressives Congress (APC) and confusion among Nigerians.

Let us state the facts clearly.

First, there is no verifiable evidence that the Vice President has declared any form of war against the President. On the contrary, Kashim Shettima has been one of the most loyal deputies in Nigeria’s democratic history. He has stood beside the President in difficult times, consistently reaffirming commitment to the Renewed Hope Agenda.

Second, the tired narrative of “cabals in the Villa” has been recycled under every administration. Without names, proof, or documents, such claims remain nothing more than bar-room gossip. Nigeria’s Constitution vests authority in the President and his Vice President, not in faceless shadowy groups.

Third, the APC remains stable, with a majority in the National Assembly and governors across most states. Yes, disagreements exist, as in every ruling party, but they are handled within party structures. To suggest that the party will “scatter” because of the Vice President is a baseless exaggeration.

The comparison to former Kaduna Governor Nasir El-Rufai is also misleading. El-Rufai’s political battles are personal and unrelated to Shettima’s relationship with the President. Likewise, the cases of Dr. Abdullahi Ganduje and others cannot be equated to betrayal of the North or any geopolitical bloc.

The claim that Shettima has “opened a can of worms” by exposing corruption in the judiciary and legislature is completely fabricated. No such statement exists in any credible public record.

The truth is simple: there is no cold war. There is governance, with all its complexities, debates, and challenges. What Nigeria needs now is unity, not divisive storytelling.

Rather than inventing crises, let us focus on solutions on jobs, security, and development. The future of Nigeria is too important to be mortgaged on rumor mills.
