ONDO STATE @ 50: A GOLDEN MILESTONE OF RESILIENCE, REFORM AND RENEWED HOPE
Engr Olawande okoro felicitates Ondo government and the people of ondo state
As Ondo State marks the golden jubilee of its creation, a leading aspirant for the Ondo State House of Assembly, Owo Constituency I, Engr. Olawande Okoro has extended warm congratulations to the Government and people of the Sunshine State, describing the 50-year milestone as a testament to resilience, progressive governance and the indomitable spirit of its citizens.
Speaking through a statement made available to our correspondent, Engr. Okoro commended the administration of the Executive Governor of Ondo State for what he termed “measurable strides in institutional consolidation, infrastructural renewal and socio-economic reengineering,” noting that the state’s journey since its creation in 1976 has been defined by courage, sacrifice and an firm commitment to development.
According to him, the golden jubilee is not merely a ceremonial landmark but a historic opportunity for sober reflection on the collective struggles, triumphs and aspirations that have shaped Ondo State into a respected sub-national entity within the Nigerian federation. “Fifty years on, Ondo State stands as a beacon of intellectual depth, cultural pride and democratic consciousness. From its storied contributions to national politics and jurisprudence, to its human capital development and agricultural endowments, the state has continued to punch above its weight,” Engr. Okoro stated.
He particularly applauded the current government for sustaining reforms in critical sectors such as infrastructure, education, healthcare, security architecture and rural development, asserting that these interventions have strengthened governance outcomes and reinforced public confidence in state institutions.
Engr. Okoro further paid tribute to past leaders, traditional institutions, professionals, workers, youths and the Ondo diaspora whose collective efforts, he said, have laid enduring foundations for growth and stability. He emphasized that the progress recorded over the decades is the product of shared responsibility and visionary leadership across generations.
On the future of the state, the Owo Constituency I aspirant expressed optimism that Ondo State is poised for a new era of inclusive prosperity, innovation and sustainable development, particularly if governance continues to prioritize accountability, equity and people-centred policies. “As we celebrate fifty years of statehood, the task before us is to deepen democratic dividends, empower our youths, strengthen local economies and safeguard the rule of law. The next chapter must be defined by purposeful legislation and responsive representation that aligns with the hopes of our people,” he added.
Engr. Okoro concluded by congratulating all sons and daughters of Ondo State at home and in the diaspora, urging them to see the golden jubilee as a rallying point for unity, renewed patriotism and collective action towards building a stronger, more prosperous Sunshine State.
Ondo State was created on February 3, 1976 and has since remained a strategic hub of culture, intellect and political influence in Nigeria’s South-West region. As celebrations unfold to mark its 50th anniversary, stakeholders across sectors continue to reflect on its legacy and chart a course for the decades ahead.
