The deceased operative, identified as Lamidi Abiodun, was reportedly killed on Wednesday, April 30, 2025, during a coordinated response to a distress call from local farmers under attack in the Papa village farmland area.

A tragic ambush by suspected armed hoodlums in the Papa area of Iwo, Osun State, has led to the death of a member of the Osun State Security Network Agency, codenamed Amotekun Corps, and left another vigilante member missing.

The deceased operative, identified as Lamidi Abiodun, was reportedly killed on Wednesday, April 30, 2025, during a coordinated response to a distress call from local farmers under attack in the Papa village farmland area.

According to a statement issued on Thursday by the Public Relations Officer of the Osun Amotekun Corps, Yusuf Idowu, Abiodun, along with other Amotekun operatives and members of the Vigilante Group of Nigeria (VGN), was deployed to the area following reports of an ongoing assault on the farmlands.Nigerian fashion

Upon arrival, the security team was ambushed by gunmen allegedly led by a notorious gang leader identified as Akeem Olofa.

Although Abiodun reportedly survived initial gunfire, he was later overpowered and fatally struck with a machete to the head, dying on the spot.

In the aftermath of the attack, Nurudeen Alowonle, a member of the VGN, was declared missing, and Alex Sola sustained a gunshot wound to the leg. Several other operatives managed to escape the ambush.

The Amotekun Corps confirmed that the incident has been reported at the Iwo Divisional Police Headquarters, and Abiodun’s body has been deposited in a local mortuary.

“This tragic incident has cast a dark shadow over the Amotekun Corps and the entire Osun security community,” the statement read.

“Investigations are ongoing, and efforts are being intensified to apprehend the perpetrators and ensure justice is served.”

The security agency also called on residents of Osun State to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activities to the relevant authorities, emphasising its continued commitment to securing lives and property.
