The Nigerian Meteorological Agency (NiMet) has issued a weather alert forecasting widespread thunderstorms and hazy conditions across the country from Tuesday to Thursday.Travel guides

In a statement released on Monday in Abuja, NiMet advised the public to prepare for fluctuating weather patterns, including dust haze in the north and isolated thunderstorms in central and southern regions.

According to the agency, areas such as Katsina and Kano are expected to experience slight dust haze, while Taraba and Adamawa States will see thunderstorms in the afternoons and evenings.

Sunny skies with patches of clouds are anticipated in the North Central zone, with storms forecast in Nasarawa, Kogi, Kwara, Benue, and the Federal Capital Territory.

The southern region will see cloudy skies and isolated thunderstorms in states like Akwa Ibom, Cross River, Rivers, and Bayelsa during morning hours, expanding later in the day to affect Osun, Ekiti, Lagos, Delta, and other states.

This pattern is expected to continue into Wednesday and Thursday, with thunderstorms forecast in various states across all regions, including Ogun, Ondo, Oyo, Imo, Enugu, and Ebonyi

NiMet also warned that strong winds may precede the rains, posing risks such as flying debris and falling branches. The agency advised Nigerians, especially those with respiratory issues, to take precautions as dust particles remain suspended in the atmosphere.

Residents are urged to stay indoors during heavy storms, avoid driving in the rain, disconnect electrical appliances, and steer clear of tall trees.

NiMet also called on airline operators to obtain updated, airport-specific weather forecasts for safe flight planning.

The agency emphasised the importance of staying informed through regular updates and advisories as the country navigates these weather changes.
