Troops of Operation Safe Haven (OPSH) on Tuesday foiled a planned attack on villages in Plateau State, killing three suspected armed militia members and recovering four AK-47 rifles during a military operation in Teng and Kayarda communities of Qua’an Pan Local Government Area.
Major Samson Zhakom, the Media Officer for OPSH, confirmed the development in a statement released in Jos.
He said the troops acted swiftly following credible intelligence reports about an imminent assault on the communities.
“This morning, some armed militia heading to attack some villages on the Plateau were ambushed and neutralised by troops of OPSH,” Zhakom said.
He explained that troops, who had taken up strategic ambush positions, engaged the suspects and neutralised three of them, while several others fled the scene.
“Troops further recovered four AK-47 rifles, four AK-47 magazines, and 56 rounds of 7.62mm special ammunition from the suspects,” he added.
Zhakom noted that the troops have intensified efforts to apprehend the fleeing members of the militia group and ensure lasting peace in the region.
