In the early hours of today, 29th May 2025, the leadership of National Association of Ondo State Students (NAOSS) National Body met with the management board of the Ondo State Scholarship Board at the office of the Administrative Secretary, Dr. Akindele Ige, in Akure. The meeting commenced with an opening prayer led by the Senate President of the association, Senator Oyesanu Festus.

The Administrative Secretary, Dr. Ige Akindele, congratulated the new President and executive members, urging them to lead with innovation, resilience, and vision. He reminded them that leadership comes with physical, mental, and financial responsibilities and encouraged them to remain focused and solution-driven. He introduced the members of his team present at the meeting, including Mrs. Ikubuwaye (Director of Scholarship) and Mrs. Owolabi Temitope (Director of Scholarship), with the Director of Finance represented by Mr. Ebiwojumi (Admin Officer).

The NAOSS President introduced his executive members to the management. Dr. Ige explained the purpose and objectives of the Ondo State Scholarship Board, ensuring the student leaders understood them. He enlightened them on the board’s structure, functions, and responsibilities attached to each office.

He emphasized the importance of bursary and scholarship in bridging the gap between the rich and the poor and updated the student leaders on ongoing activities, including:

i. Scholarship and Bursary and Financial Programs

ii. Student Verification Processes

iii. Institutional Collaborations and Stakeholder Engagement

Dr. Ige stated that bursary disbursement would commence after approval by the Governor, pending completion of registration and screening processes. He praised the Governor for prioritizing student welfare and assured the student leaders that bursary would be available despite the registration deadline. Special considerations would be made for students with disabilities, law students, and medical students.

He emphasized the need for a fair disbursement process and encouraged collaboration with students for seamless communication. Dr. Ige discussed strategic plans, including partnerships with local and foreign NGOs, philanthropists, and financial institutions, to enable students to access scholarships and bursaries.

The President, Comr. Alade Oluwatosin, appreciated the management’s efforts in prioritizing student welfare. He requested an extension of the registration deadline due to network glitches and server issues, which the management agreed to, extending the deadline by 10 working days.

The President also requested the inclusion of accredited private tertiary institutions on the portal and correction of school name changes. The management approved his requests. The President and executives further requested an increment in scholarship and bursary amounts, which the management promised to consider.

The Administrative Secretary outlined possible causes of failed registration and offered feasible solutions. He commended the executives for pursuing education despite challenges and assured them of his full support.

The meeting concluded with a vote of thanks and prayers said by the Senate Clerk, Senator Oluloro Emmanuel.
