The Special Adviser to the President on Media and Policy, Daniel Bwala, has dismissed his past criticisms of President Bola Tinubu, saying his previous statements were made because he was in the opposition.
Speaking on Arise TV’s Morning Show on Tuesday, February 11, 2025, Bwala, who was formerly a vocal critic of Tinubu’s government, said his views changed after he joined the administration.
“The opposition’s work is to criticise the sitting government and hold them accountable. My views changed after I met the President, and he saw a need to appoint me,” Bwala stated.
Bwala was a member of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) but left in 2022 when the party fielded a Muslim-Muslim presidential ticket with Tinubu and Kashim Shettima.
He later joined the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and served as a spokesperson for Atiku Abubakar’s campaign.
During the 2023 elections, Bwala was one of Tinubu’s fiercest critics, questioning the credibility of the electoral process and branding Tinubu’s government as “president-select” rather than “president-elect.”
He also likened electing Tinubu to experiencing a “night of a thousand laughs.”
However, now serving as a media aide to the President, Bwala downplayed his past remarks, saying, “They are not relevant.”
Meanwhile, since taking up his new role, Bwala has been an outspoken defender of Tinubu’s policies, marking a stark contrast to his previous stance.
