Ag. IGP Olatunji Rilwan Disu Assumes Office as Nigeria’s 23rd Indigenous Inspector-General of Police

The Acting Inspector-General of Police, Ag. IGP Olatunji Rilwan Disu, psc, has formally assumed duty as the 23rd Indigenous Inspector-General of Police, following the completion of tenure by his predecessor.

He takes over from Kayode Adeolu Egbetokun (Rtd), PhD, NPM, who served as the 22nd Indigenous Inspector-General of Police from 19 June 2023 to 24 February 2026. Official records describe Egbetokun’s tenure as meritorious, with no contrary institutional position stated at the time of transition.

Ag. IGP Disu was born on 13 April 1966 and hails from Lagos Island Local Government Area of Lagos State. His emergence as Acting Inspector-General follows a long career within the Nigeria Police Force, culminating in his appointment to the nation’s highest policing office.

Educational records attributed to the Acting Inspector-General indicate extensive academic training across security, public administration, and strategic studies. These include a Master of Science in Entrepreneurship from the National Open University of Nigeria in 2023; a Master of Science in Criminology, Security and Legal Psychology from Lagos State University in 2022; an Advanced Diploma in Forensic Investigation and Criminal Intelligence from the University of Lagos in 2019; and a Master of Science in Public Administration from Adekunle Ajasin University in 2010. He also holds a Postgraduate Diploma in International Relations and Strategic Studies from Lagos State University, earned in 2000, and a Bachelor’s degree in English (Education) from the same institution, completed in 1990.

No official policy direction or operational changes have yet been announced in connection with the new leadership. Security analysts note that such transitions typically involve a period of internal briefings, institutional continuity measures, and strategic review before public reforms are communicated.

The appointment places renewed attention on policing outcomes, institutional accountability, and public trust at a time of heightened national focus on internal security and law enforcement performance.
