B’Haram:People That Have Gone Through Process Are Persona Non Grata,B’Haram Won’t Accept Them-Brigadier General Sani Kukasheka-Usman (Rtd)

Brigadier General Sani Kukasheka-Usman (Rtd) has offered fresh insights into Nigeria’s deradicalisation programme, stating that many rehabilitated former Boko Haram fighters face rejection from the insurgent group and are now viewed with suspicion.

Speaking during an interview on Trust TV, the retired military officer explained that individuals who have undergone the government’s rehabilitation and reintegration process often lose their standing among active террорист members. His remarks come amid ongoing debates over the effectiveness and safety implications of reintegrating ex-combatants into society.

Highlighting the realities faced by these individuals, Kukasheka-Usman said: “As a matter of fact, people do not even know. All those people that have already gone through the process are already persona non grata because the Boko Haram terrorists will no longer accept them because they are natural suspects.” The statement underscores the complex position of rehabilitated fighters, who are caught between societal skepticism and hostility from their former allies.

According to the retired brigadier general, this development could be seen as a strategic advantage in counterinsurgency efforts, as it weakens the trust within terrorist ranks. However, it also raises concerns about the long-term safety and monitoring of such individuals after reintegration, especially within vulnerable communities.

Nigeria has, in recent years, intensified its deradicalisation initiatives aimed at encouraging defections from Boko Haram and reducing insurgent strength. While the programme has recorded some successes, critics argue that insufficient transparency and community engagement may undermine its impact.
