According to a report by Daily Post on Saturday, April 18, 2026, political strategist and Group Chief Executive Officer of Global Investment and Trade Company, Baba Yusuf, has raised concerns that if the current security situation persists, bandits could eventually find their way into Nigeria’s legislative chambers, including the Senate and the House of Representatives.
He issued this warning while speaking during an appearance on Arise News, where he addressed the growing influence of armed groups across parts of the country.
Yusuf stated that in several communities, particularly in the northern region, the authority of bandits has expanded to the extent that ordinary citizens now pay them levies and seek their intervention in disputes.
According to him, this development reflects a troubling shift in governance and control, where non-state actors are increasingly assuming roles traditionally held by legitimate authorities.
He further highlighted that despite the rising number of casualties resulting from attacks, political actors continue to treat the issue of insecurity as a subject of political maneuvering.
While communities experience repeated violence and loss of life, Yusuf noted that there appears to be little alignment in addressing the threat, even as armed groups continue to challenge the authority of the state.
The strategist also pointed to what he described as a pattern of bold actions by these groups, including direct confrontations with security forces.
He explained that there have been instances where attackers reportedly killed soldiers and subsequently disguised themselves in military uniforms, creating confusion and undermining trust in official institutions
