Please Don’t Kill Me” – How Kidnappers Used a UNIJOS Student’s Phone to Terrorize His Friends
Suspected terrorists who abducted seven travellers including University of Jos student John Arum have adopted a chilling new pressure tactic: using the victim’s own mobile phone to record and distribute torture videos directly to his course mates, demanding N30 million ransom.
The victims were travelling from Jos, Plateau State to Kaduna State late last week when gunmen intercepted their vehicle along the highway. Among the seven captured was Arum, whose subsequent treatment has sparked outrage across Nigeria.
In a disturbing video obtained by Sahara Reporters, the kidnappers filmed themselves torturing Arum—beating him with sticks, placing a heavy stone on his back, and pressing a rifle against his head while he pleaded “Please don’t kill me… I’m begging you”.
The captors then used Arum’s phone to send the footage directly to his coursemates via a group chat, transforming his personal device into a weapon of psychological warfare against his friends and family.
