Media personality and publisher, Dele Momodu, has fired back at an online critic over comments concerning the political ambition of former Vice President, Atiku Abubakar.
The exchange began after a social media user identified as Ezeh Val urged Momodu to “listen to Nigerians,” warning against a repeat of internal crises that plagued the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) within the African Democratic Congress (ADC). The critic also advised Momodu to set aside personal interests and “do what is right.”
Responding sharply, Momodu questioned the basis of the criticism, defending Atiku’s right to contest for political office.
“When did Alhaji Atiku Abubakar tell you heavens will fall if he does not run?” Momodu asked.
He went on to describe Atiku as a committed democrat who has consistently pursued his political ambitions without violence, adding that Nigerians are free to support candidates of their choice rather than discourage others.
“ATIKU is a consummate democrat who has never pursued his mission in politics violently,” he stated. “You have a choice to campaign for your preferred candidate and not to discourage one of the most influential, experienced, tolerant, accomplished, cerebral, tenacious, all-embracing, patriotic Nigerians in active politics today.”
Momodu further argued that the former vice president has contributed significantly to the growth of younger politicians, insisting that he deserves respect rather than what he termed “veiled bullying.”
The exchange has since sparked reactions on social media, with supporters and critics weighing in on Atiku’s continued relevance in Nigeria’s political landscape and the broader debate over leadership within opposition parties.
